Our Sustainablity
1. Eco-friendly manufacturing
engrace uses various "unused items" as materials, applies kintsugi, upcycles them, and creates accessories.
When potters create their works, there inevitably arise items that are "not usable as tableware," such as broken or damaged pieces.
Also, Japanese ceramics that have not been used at home for a long time and will not be used in the future, as well as cups and bowls that are broken or chipped, are among them.
Even if it cannot be used as a vessel, it is a "ceramic" crafted by artisans who have carefully selected clay and glaze and honed their skills over many years.
We purchase them, break them into pieces, and polish each one by hand to reuse them as parts for accessories.
We also use stained glass to match the ceramics, and we are utilizing leftover materials for this as well.
Small pieces that are left over after creating stained glass works.
If utilized effectively, the amount of glass waste will decrease, making it possible to create environmentally friendly products.
The other pieces are "sea pottery" and "sea glass" that have drifted ashore from far away over a long period of time.
The pieces that are scattered on the beach may have once been considered "unwanted," but upon closer inspection, the edges are smoothed, the pottery shards each have unique patterns, and the glass displays beautiful, gentle colors, making them perfect for accessory pieces.
When you look at the artwork while pondering when and where it flowed from and what it used to be, you may feel an even deeper affection for it.
The ceramics and glass that are no longer used may seem worthless at first glance, but by changing the way we use and view them, new possibilities arise as accessories.
If you change your perspective, its value will change.
The discarded items are reborn, and by transforming them into accessories that we wear daily, we can feel closer to the traditionally high-end ceramics.
Through manufacturing, we not only bring joy to our customers but also contribute to the preservation of Japan's culture, traditions, and natural environment.
The brand concept of engrace is based on the idea of "reusing ceramics that inherit nature and tradition, and transforming them into accessories, making nature and Japanese traditional techniques more accessible and familiar, while creating new possibilities and values through SDGs accessories."
“Unused items” and “discarded items” are carefully transformed by hand into new “Kintsugi jewelry,” bringing them back to life.
From "mass production and mass consumption" to a sustainable "circular society."
Please enjoy the sustainable accessories filled with ideas from engrace.
2. Plastic-free SDGs
Plastic waste that leads to ocean pollution is becoming more serious.
Environmental pollution is primarily caused by plastic waste from urban areas flowing through rivers into the sea, which leads to the impact on marine life such as whales, sea turtles, and seabirds that mistakenly ingest these materials thinking they are food, as well as the deterioration of coastal habitats.
At engrace, we make every effort to avoid using plastic packaging as much as possible, opting for paper products such as boxes and tissue paper, and we also use paper gift boxes for gift wrapping.
(During transportation, some products are protected using OPP bags.)
In September 2015, at the international summit held at the New York headquarters, the 17 goals of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) were established, and engrace is working on these two goals.
12「Create Responsibility, Use Responsibility」: We create handmade accessories that are upcycled, rather than engaging in mass production and consumption.
Goal 14 "Protect the richness of the ocean": We will use plastic-free materials as much as possible for packaging and gift wrapping.
We will cherish limited resources and energy, and take on what we can do.

SDGs accessories
One of the main materials used is traditional Japanese pottery.
While making pottery, it is inevitable that some items become damaged or do not meet the regular quality standards. These pieces may be fragile, chipped or scratched.
We also use Japanese pottery pieces that have been left unused in homes for a long time or have been broken, cracked or chipped.
Even if you can no longer use the item for its original purpose, it is still a piece of art made by craftsmen who have carefully selected the clay and glaze with skills refined over many years.
Pottery and glass that is no longer used may seem worthless at first glance. Changing the way you use them or look at them will open up new possibilities as accessory pieces.
When you change your point of view, your perception of "value" will change as well.
By turning discarded pieces into new accessories used for everyday wear we can breathe new life into traditional pottery, which historically used to be difficult to obtain.
Through the creation of our accessories we do not only make the people who wear them happy, but we are also striving for the preservation of traditional Japanese culture and the protection of the environment.
The concept of engrace is based on the following thought; "by reusing and remaking pottery that in its essence uses natural materials into accessories, we will make nature and traditional Japanese techniques more accessible and give people a new perspective of "unusable" goods. As such, we create quality pieces of art that embody the Sustainable Development Goals."
From a society of mass production and mass consumption to one of sustainability and recycling.

2.Plastic-free SDGs
Plastic waste and the subsequent marine pollution is becoming a major issue.
Environmental pollution negatively impacts the lives of whales, sea turtles, seabirds and other marine life as they mistake plastic parts for food. Plastic waste generated by cities flows down rivers and ends up in the ocean resulting in the deterioration of coastal areas and the natural living environment of its fauna and flora.

Of the 17 goals of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) adopted by the United Nations in September 2015, engrace focuses on the following two goals;
"Goal 12: responsible consumption and production."
"Goal 14: life below water."

engrace uses various "unused items" as materials to create unique and charming accessories through the art of kintsugi repair.
One of them is the "ceramics" that inherit Japanese tradition.
When making ceramics in a kiln, it is inevitable to have finished products with cracks, scratches, and other defects that cannot be used as normal utensils.
In addition, Japanese ceramics, cups and bowls that are broken or incomplete and have not been used at home for a long time, will also be among them and will not be used in the future.
Even if it cannot be used as a container, it is "ceramics" made with carefully selected clay and glaze by skilled artisans who have honed their craft over many years.
Buy them, grind them into pieces one by one by hand, and reuse them as parts for decorations.
The combination of ceramic and colored glass will also be used.
After creating works with colored glass, small leftover fragments remain.
If effectively utilized, it will reduce the waste of glass materials, thereby achieving a pollution-free creative process for the environment.
Another part of the accessories consists of "shards of pottery" and "fragments of glass" that have been washed ashore by the waves after being soaked and battered by seawater for a long time from distant places.
The fragments scattered on the beach may once have been "unwanted items," but upon closer inspection, their edges have been smoothed, the pottery displays various patterns, and the glass has beautiful soft colors, making them very suitable as raw materials for jewelry.
When did it drift here from where, and what was it before? If you imagine while appreciating the work, you may experience a deeper sense of love.
Unused pottery and glass may seem worthless at first glance, but if you start to change your perspective and usage from the heart, they will regain new possibilities as decorative items.
Change your "perspective," and its "value" will change.
The abandoned items are transformed and made into decorative pieces for everyday wear, allowing one to personally experience the high threshold of traditional craft ceramics.
