This is a Kintsugi SDGs Obidome (sash clip) made by upcycling Kyo ware / Kiyomizu ware.We reuse ceramics from Fukuiku-gama, a pottery studio in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, that are cracked, chipped, or no longer used, and restore them into accessories by applying Kintsugi.

The concept of the work is to allow people to feel nature and long-standing Japanese traditions close to them, and to give them new possibilities by transforming them into modern accessories that connect to the future.

I have paired calm gray Kyo ware featuring flavorful patterns with Amazonite natural stone and golden-yellow (Yamabuki-iro) stained glass.The ceramic shard has a thick design, making this an Obidome with a strong presence.

Kintsugi is applied to the sides of the shards, so the gold shines even from the side, creating an elegant impression.

*"Kintsugi" is a unique Japanese traditional repair method that joins cracked or chipped ceramics using lacquer and gold powder. This work is created using a modern "simplified Kintsugi" technique. Unlike traditional Kintsugi made with raw tree sap (Hon-urushi), the bonding itself uses adhesive.

The Kintsugi parts use lacquer (modern paint made by a manufacturer, not raw lacquer) and gold powder (brass powder, pearl powder), and UV resin is also used for reinforcement.
